Nightstand Update!

I've been working so much the last week, so I've yet to spend a whole day on my project or up together some new outfits. But just wanted to let you know that it is sanded and ready to be primed! I decided on Valspar's "Fresh Mist" color.

I also have several things planned for future posts that I am super excited about, like showing off my delightfully tacky mug collection!

DIY Night Stand Overhaul!

Cat Butt! C:

I am so excited about this project I've taken on. While in Boston for a second time, I thirfted this nightstand. It was so cute, but $35, so I was prepared to walk away (with some difficulty). As I turned around, the man behind the counter said, "You know it's half off green tags today." So I carried it all they way back to the car, shoved it in the back (somehow) and brought it home. It had an old perfume spill in it so I've been using everything I have to try get that old, sickly smell out. Aside from that it's pretty clean and sturdy. A friend of mine recently thrifted a similar thing and painted it a lovely red, so I've been inspired to paint mine too. I'm thinking a turquoise blue of some sort.. I was leaning towards a lighter shade, but my friend thinks a darker be would be better..Opinions?

Goodwill Hunting

We're traveling around New England this week, it's such a beautiful place. I went around to all the thrifty stores I could find in the area today. I came home with another vintage, 40's purse that's oh-so-classy, as well as a velvet jewelry box. Pictures soon when I return home in a few days.

Sunbrella

Hello, all!
A few days past, I took a trip to Boston  to go thrifting and came home with some wonderful things. The shirt, skirt and umbrella were all thrifted on the same day! Quite a wonderful feeling really. I also found an extremely unique purse which I will showcase in the near future. The umbrella is probably from the 1950's, everything is in working order, has the original silk sleeve, it also still repels rain. I was weary of testing it for some reason, I suppose I didn't want to ruin it, but, I got stuck in a down-pour on the way home that day. Today I used it as a parasol, and it worked wonderfully! It made such a nice light-box I may bring it with me when I go out to take pictures on sunny days.
The shirt is also quite interesting, it's actually a very long shirt, almost a dress, but not quite. It's very versatile and I can't wait to wear it again in a different way.

That's all for now,
♥ Mj

A Three-Legged Fox

Today, I saw a three-legged fox! No kidding! I was driving by a field when I saw the little red guy, so I pulled over to watch him. At first I thought he was injured and limping, but then he turned a little bit and I saw there was no right front leg! He didn't seem in pain and he eventually sat down to watch me, watch him. After a few minutes, although I didn't want to go, I got back in my car and sloooooowly drove off, watching him in the mirror until he was out of site. I've decided to call him Calvin.

A Trip to the Sea

Today my friend and I took on the long trip to the sea, where we made some lovely photos. The dress a simple blue, thrifted for $3 with a pink scarf accenting the middle, also thirfted for a wonderful 50 cents, and then of course, my hat, which I bought new. I have always enjoyed going to thrift shops, and yard sales, but this summer I've apparently been bitten by the Super Thrifty Bug, 'cause I can't stop. I have found many great finds with in the last few days, and I am itching to go again. I've been looking up thrift/antique stores with in 30 miles of where I live, and am going to try to go to them alllllll.

I absolutely adore the ocean, I wish I lived near it so I could go there everyday, because I would. Rain, shine, snow, or windy, the beach is never ceases to stun me with it's beauty.

See you soon!

Fields of Flowers

Sorry for being so quiet lately, I've been working like a maniac trying to save money, and the past few days I've come home just to beat to do anything but sleep. But I am here now, and hope to start writing something everyday.

I bought this dress at Forever XXI, and I absolutely adore it! Most certainly my new favorite, it is a seemingly simple dress with a subtle pizazz thanks to the open back. I've been wearing it so much, it had so many colors in, it matching it with sweaters and accessories is pretty easy, not to mention is super comfy. I paired it up with a brown leather watch and shoe, large key earrings, and a reverse milk-maid braid, which I made up on my own one rainy day.. Although  someone has probably done it already.. Anyway, something isn't quite right to me as I look back at these photos, and I wonder if  its my accessory choice that throws it off.  Earrings or watch? I'm not too sure, so what do you think? I'd love to hear!

The fields around my house are so beautiful, filled with crickets and colors and other wonderful crawly things. So I grabbed the tripod, camera and Erik (the dog!) and took some pictures.

A little bit about

I hope some of you are returning for a second helping, but if not, welcome! (You should read the first post ☺) I suppose a bit of background is in order. I am in my twenties, and enjoy sewing, photography, adventures, floral and western-themed wallpaper, collecting odd mugs/kitchen items and making all kinds of art, which is what I went to school for. I take a lot of my photos with a timer and tripod, but most are taken by my best friend. As for my outfits I try to keep the dresses, shoes, shirts, accessories/etc. I buy under $30. That said, of course I will splurge occasionally and buy something a little on the pricy side, unfortunately working and saving as much as I have been this year, shopping has been the last thing on my to do list; so you may see a few remixes.

In my last post I posted a picture of me and my darling pooch Erik! (Always classy in his tux.) Anyway, here what I was wearing: Dress- XXI, Shoes- Candies via Khols, Saddlebag- Vintage, Etsy.

This, Could be Interesting...

Yes this could be, will you help me do just that?  My name is M.j. and welcome to Empty Pocketbook Fashion! I want to bring my style, ( Along with ramblings, photos, and fun finds) to you! As much as I would love to buy from fancy designer shops, vintage boutiques, it's just not possible on my budget now and it may never be. I have a feeling many people in love with the indie and delightfully tacky styles, feel the same. Therefore, I have been inspired to make this blog, and bring my well-priced fashion and ideas to you! It may be a slow start as things get rolling, but bare with me and please keep checking back!

Much love,
 M.j.
